Gotham Type Poster

A poster expressing the history and beauty behind the Gotham typeface

DESCRIPTION

The Gotham typeface was created by Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones for GQ and was inspired by the lettering on Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal sign. The goal of the project is to play with an old-school style of graphic design. This goes back to the roots of hierarchy and layout design. Although not as used today, it is still wildly popular and a good idea of what design used to be all about. I also wanted to show off the beauty and simplicity behind the type. Gotham is very simple and elegant with very rounded characters that almost seamlessly fit into each other.

GOALS

  • Design a poster that is easily readable and describes the typeface and its importance

  • Research the typeface and understand where it comes from and the meaning behind it

  • Create a clean and simple layout that mimics the creation and goal of the typeface
